I have just spent the last hour or so listening to tunes that I love. I've listened to Etta James, Nina Simone, Neil Diamond, Paolo Nutini, Amy Winehouse etc.
I then thought about all of the tunes that my brothers loved and the ones that struck a chord with or for them.
I listened to Radiohead. Aidan's favourite band! Paranoid Android and Creep being two of his favourites. My husbands most favourite band ever! One of the many things that he and Aidan had in common. Everytime he hears a new tune, whether it's by Radiohead or any other band that they both liked, he gets that look on his face! That....OMG....I wish I could share this thing! He would just sooooo love this! lol I sometimes think that Iain misses him more than I do! Is that possible? Probably! They loved one another so much. It was a special thing. But then, as Aidan told Iain...."I love you man, but she's my sister!" I think that says it all. Sorry, but I can't help being slightly selfish.
I also paid special tribute to my beautiful Roddy. Nobody seems to remember him much, he's been gone such a long time.
He had got into U2 and Pink Floyd not long before he died. Alongside all of the scary stuff that country WA (Aus) listens to! (Sorry)
Comfortably numb is one of the most melancholy songs. It is so descriptive and beautiful, but disturbing! Roddy listened to it for weeks before he died. He may have been trying to convey something?
I love taking a wee trip down memory lane every so often. I think that Rod and Aidan deserve to be remembered.. As real people, who had things that they loved, and that they liked or hated. They're not just a couple of boys in a photograph! They were my brothers and I knew them both in different ways.
Music can tell you so much about a person. The bands or songs that they love.
I love many kinds of music. But I especially love old, old music. Black music. Bessie Smith, Lady Day etc. Blues is King!
I don't feel sad tonight. I'm happy to be listening to the music my brothers loved. It makes me feel close to them.
God Bless x
